I don't think i've ever entered an art contest. But this was fun.

Anyways the theme was mythology/animals, which is great.

So I've loved Greek myths since i was a teeny bopper because the stories have epic plots. Also I had a greek myth unit in school. THIS IS ALL COMING BACK. And I don't usually draw horses but HE CAN FLY. AND HE'S THE SYMBOL OF GLORY AND INSPIRATION yee?

According to myth, Bellerophon is an excellent chap who tamed the magical Pegasus and had exciting adventures with him. Then one day he decided to ride him to Olympus, the gods' place. Since this was a show of extreme hubris (pride and conceitedness), they chucked him off the horse and he was crippled forever.

In the real myth the gods send a gnat to bite Pegasus, making him rear and throw Bellerophon off. But insects aren't as visually compelling or refreshing as say, foamy frothy water.

Also, legend claims that everywhere he struck his hoof, a spring would burst forth from the earth. This power comes from his being born from the mingling of Medusa's blood and sea foam, and the fact that he is a horse. Poseidon, god of sea, first invented horses. WATER SEA OCEAN SPLASHY STUFF

In Bellerophon's last hours the monstrous waves of (his best friend) Pegasus's magical springs will engulf him. Is this irony? Or just lame ;D

CHAOS. drawn in SAI, 10 hours i think?
