Nightmare Fuel

We stopped checking for monsters under the bed when we realized they were inside us.

Also inspired by Lord of the Flies (William Golding), Life of Pi(Yann Martel) and Pan's Labyrinth(OK I GOT IT ITS GUILLERMO DEL TORO OK SORRY), all telling excellent stories about kids crossing the threshold of innocence

I wanted to say that the monsters under your bed are illusions that your own brain makes up for you and basically it's aallllllllllll your own wonderfully active imagination and if there's a monster under the bed, your mind is what put it there in the first place

And also that everyone has an evil side that they have to accept at some point and it was always there in the back of your head hmmm
And this inner monster is the Monster of all monsters, so all other monsters are like lil slavering puppy dogs compared to the human monster, but only once you find your inner monster</sub>
